Subtriplication (Trio for Low Flutes)

'Subtriplication' by Canadian composer Peter Senchuk was premiered last week by Peter Sheridan and a duo of his talented students from Monash University. The concert was titled 'Sonic Landscapes' and featured other new music for various combinations of low flutes. The music is jazz based, with cool riffs floating over a hypnotic ostinato bass line. The piece is cleverly scored for alto, bass and contrabass flutes. Some of the rhythmic passages (or rather de-construction of the rhythmic patterns) can be a challenge for younger players, though the middle section has a haunting quality with exquisite voicing for the low flutes. It was an honour to play such a fine piece by a composer whm is providing himself to be a master at wrting for the low flutes. Bravo! Info here for purchase: Subtrilpication Trio
